Hi.
It is true that mediums deal with good as well as bad spirit, in fact dealing with the bad elements can be essential in some cases if you want to help the good ones. All mediums need to know how to protect themselves otherwise they will catch ‘energetic germs’ as you put it, a mediums own spirit guide or the gate keeper will also help to protect them from unfriendly entities as they do everyday for each and everyone of us.
On the subject of empathy towards others without kudos you should talk to my wife on that one she's been working as a healer and medium all her life and never charged for it. But for most of us we are all too busy working trying to make ends meet to spare any time to help others on a regular basis, I used to do some voluntary work when I was a teenager and thoroughly enjoyed doing so, its certainly something I would recommend and I may well do some more now the kids are grown up, its certainly good for the soul no kudos required.
As for unconditional love, well when it’s your own child however old that’s just a natural, given that there will be unconditional love given to your off spring.
My wife had a very difficult childhood. Her mother was not motherly or nurturing. My wife was quite often called a ‘witch’ by her mother. There was also physical, verbal and mental abuse directed towards my wife from her mother for over 50 years. My wife still bares the ‘scars’ of this, but it has made her a much stronger person, who has forgiven her mother (but has great trouble with understanding why this was directed at her).
We live hundreds of miles away from her parents, but whenever we travel up, we always go to the home my mother in law is in, so my wife can visit her, that’s unconditional love of a parent.
Unconditional love for a friend can be difficult and for me the hardest type especially when that friendship is in trouble due to betrayal or a trust issue, in which case I would and have done in the past, ended regular contact but I would still remain friendly with them, I just would not be as close, how can you be as close if the trust that binds a friendship together has been severed.

Hi there, Andy :)

snip:Hey! did I say life was easy?
**** lol - no one I know coz i only know sane people.

snip:she is a healer and a medium.
*** honest question: according to my own understanding, the healing power is linked to the finest of healing energy - soul stuff = good stuff :)
Mediumistic ability has one dealing with the other end of the spectrum - the astral shell - gross energy = scary stuff when it's freewheeling,
disconnect from soul, as if the case when one has passed on.
How does your wife manage to find a balance and not catch too many 'energetic germs'?

I do not think that we have to be altruistic towards others every minute of everyday
*** very true and i see very little likelihood of anyone overdoing it, really.
Altruism, to me, means selfless little acts of genuine caring/empathy.
Nothing to do with grand gestures involving money or any other sort of grand gesture, really.

While it might not be too difficult 'for the one committed' to that sort of interaction
with others to DO things and SAY things to those who need things done for them
and who need to hear soothing words spoken to them,
I think that, for most of us, feeling TRUE empathy and genuine caring that's totally free
of kudos is much harder to deliver, if only a couple of times ... weekly.
But I'd love to hear more from you on that, Andy.

Actually, what seems most difficult for most of us - certainly for me - is not so much challenging our comfort zones to help stangers in need [knight in shining armor syndrome] but
but to do what it takes from the inside/out to heal our own personalrelationships.
to practice *unconditional love* - no matter what they get up to - with our parents, our partner, our colleagues and our friends
is, for me, the most difficult challenge of all.

What's everyone's views on this?

Hey! did I say life was easy? if it was we would not be here. It took me over 40 years to discover what spirituality means for me, not that I was looking that hard for most of the time. 22 years ago I married my wife, she is a healer and a medium. This started me off with an interest in the metaphyscal. Actually watching someone that can do amazing things that science can not accept and knowing that what I am witnessing is not a trick or stunt, helped me to realise that life is not all that it appears.
Many years reading books written by mediums and healers as well as many hours talking to spirit through my wife have given me a unique perspective on this life and life beyond. Most people have not got a medium as their spouse that they trust implicatly, so for most, I would agree that finding spirituality is difficult. After all can you believe every thing you read?
I do not think that we have to be altruistic towards others every minute of everyday to be a spiritual person.
Some people are placed on our path as we are placed on others, just to cause problems, life is like an assault course with walls and tunnels, rope swings, muddy water pools etc. to negotiate, if life was a stroll in the park we wouldn't be here, there would be no point. After all we have a trouble free life on the other side.
If we help others the best we can, when we can, and understand that when two paths collide no matter who's at fault you will have both learnt something, keep your cool count to ten and carry on down your path. Its not always that easy especially when a turn of events totally turns your world upside down, but its possible, mine was rocked about a year ago, its taken sometime to come to terms with what happened but I keep plodding along, Spirit assures me that we will be ok so thats enough for me, after all whats the worst that can happen? "DEATH".

You are absolutely right, Andy, but isn’t it SO amazingly hard to understand and then to accept that what we call *me, myself and I* is merely a body suit inhabited – for now, in this lifetime – by Soul?

The thing that appears seemingly impossible [because pending on the above] is to surrender our moments to soul, one moment at a time - by actively accepting What Is.

We, body suits, are only meant to keep ourselves fit and healthy for the inside/out and get out of the way to let Soul guide us towards altruistic moments and many moments of unconditional acceptance of all our circumstances and of all who are involved with our circumstances, as these circumstances/persons are nothing more that, our karmic challenges and/or rewards in this lifetime.

Spirituality to me is the realisation that we are essentially energy based beings (Spirit) temporarily occupying a physical body.
The decision to spend time in a physical body on this buetifull but dangerous planet is our own we do this so that we can learn and experiance pain, loss, stress, anxiety, hot, cold, hate, jealousey etc. etc. all the experiances we cannot experiance on the spirit plane or Heaven if you prefere,
Once you accept this as fact then life becomes much easier as every bad thing that happens to you how ever bad it is can be put down as another experience, and another lesson learned, even a death of a loved one can be easier to accept and the grief easier to manage when you realise life continues on the other side and they have only gone home.
Once you accept the concept that YOU are first and formost a spirit being or energy being that cannot be killed, life becomes somewhat less of a worry and death actually becomes more of a wonderous journey home.

It seems that biology can help us understand the phyz body.
Doctors can help repair it ... sometimes.
Shrinks can help understand why the phyz body does what it does or thinks what it thinks and spirituality definitely goes a looooooooooooooooog way towards understanding our *true* self, just as you said.

To what you have said, Spirituality, I’ll add that spirituality for me is a practice that is free of religion and rituals, one that simply demands that I understand how it is ego that pulls my strings and not anything that ever happens outside of ourselves, one that relies on establishing as much of a connection with my soul as others establish with their god, knowing that souls, unlike many gods, do not have human attributes and moods thrust upon to them, as do so many anthropomorphic gods.

What this does for me is keep me a LOT calmer inside/out than otherwise and, in the fullness of time, matters do shuffle along more smoothly when I am calm, in the moment as much as possible which limits the freaky What-Ifs and when I am working hard at actively accepting ... whatever unwelcome karmic ‘crap’ [oops, bad choice of words] has brought along and the energy of its 2 side-kicks, anxiety and fear.

And now, Person reading this thread, you're next :)
