A few years ago, I realized that I have chemical sensitivities. They put chemicals in and on everything they possibly can. I now read every label. It also helps for me to buy fresh fruits and veggies from trusted local producers. It is funny how some scientists think that chemicals are the answer to everything, when it is entirely possible that we would have less problems if we weren't exposed to such copious amounts of chemicals in the first place.
I loved the sarcasm of this article. :)

Patrick, hi :)

It's great to be excited about inner-growth!

I'm not into paranormal activities myself, but I can say that in regards to 'balancing job and new spiritual life,' whatever new thoughts you acquire, if you are serious about spiritual growth, it is within the karmic constrainst of your current life that you need to practice applying them.
Enjoy trekking on the path, Patrick,

I've been thinking about this general question for a while now. I'm experiencing a pretty big spiritual shift in my life... I wasn't incredibly "spiritual" before. I'd grown up Southern Baptist and worked as a musician in several different churches of different denominations. Organized religion burned me and I'm fortunate it didn't suck me in. After getting older and wiser and reading a lot of books on spiritual and paranormal topics, my interests are changing. I find it hard now to balance job and my new spiritual life and interests. I'm not sure what I "want to be" and how close I am to being it. What I can tell you is how excited I am for whatever is coming. :-)

Ritambhari, hi :)

Sure, mind/brain strive on their *idea* of fixing things and of processing and yes, the dipping part of the ego is most happy to keep the status quo and concoct ways to get satisfaction/compensation/reparation out of whatever *problem* mind/brain has latched on. The thing is, every situation, absolutely every situation is neutral ... no matter how good it seems at the time or how bad it feels at the time.

It is only because mind/brain gives everything a Satisfaction rating according to the needs triggered in the dipping end of our ego, that things become good/bad, pleasurable or dreadful.

AND all the thoughts about these situations that mind/brain keep spinning around and around our head ... are not of the problem solving variety.
They belong to the anxiety-producing variety and it is these thoughts that prick us into responding through knee-jerks ... on impulse, instead of ACTIVELY making peace with the situation such as it is .... and watching it .... melt away .... in the fullness of time :)

Good morning, Andy,

snip: I would say that we are a body suit
**** it certainly seems to be the way the human species has been behaving ever since it got its first skeleton. Today more than ever, we believe we are what we see in the mirror and that we are defined by our likes and dislikes as surely as by our clothes, jewelry, perfume/aftershave, work, house, car and lifestyle. But when it comes to hard core spirituality, I prefer to align myself with thinkers like Alan Watts & co who understand that the persona is not much more than the aptly named digital type of ‘persona’ or skin with which we decorate our Google or Firefox screens.

snip: with a soul disguised inside.
*** disguised as what?

Snip: Your body suit suppresses the soul
*** in my mind, the ‘body suit’ analogy illustrates the fact that we are souls cloaked in the flesh/bones/trappings of the persona and that the persona is ... hollow ... and that we are simply the vehicle for our soul in this lifetime.

Therefore, our mission is not, as we’d like to think, the search for happiness through materialism [be it controlled or out-of-control] and the culture of ‘me first’.

The cosmic plan for each one of us in this lifetime is to amend both the karma that we have inherited from our souls previous incarnations along with the karma we have been creating since our teens.

And the only way to do that, it seems, is to make peace/move on/process/accept - from the heart, not from the lips - whatever it is that has pushed our buttons. And there are many buttons on the body suit I’m thinking about :)

Snip: I believe the soul has some amount to do with the control of the personality whilst inside the body suit
*** moving away from the personal to the general, I’d say that, mostly, for us run-of-the-mill people alive today, our soul has given up on us a long time ago.

Being pure/divine energy, she has probably worked that on the whole, bar for a few rare moments of soul-stirring awe and/or selfless, intended deeds, we are not tuned to her channel. We don’t hear her.

We hardly ever think of her. She’s not a god. She’s not a saint. She’s not an angel. We don’t pray to her or ask for her support. We don’t do any particular ritual for her [not that any are needed].

As far as we’re concerned, she’s just there, hanging somewhere about our head, fuzzily defined, even in religious dogma. Sometimes, someone or other says ‘Bless your soul’. Sometimes Soul is said to be the instigator of something nasty, in which case, she’s said to be a dark, black or lost soul. Sometimes she’s said to be brave or good or vengeful – all being, of course, attributes of the ego-persona, not of the soul.

And we are told that chicken soup is good for her and that good friends provide us with soul-warming comfort. I mean, really! If Soul is not bored asleep, then she must be rolling on the floor laughing.

Yes? No? Maybe??

Hi.
It is true that mediums deal with good as well as bad spirit, in fact dealing with the bad elements can be essential in some cases if you want to help the good ones. All mediums need to know how to protect themselves otherwise they will catch ‘energetic germs’ as you put it, a mediums own spirit guide or the gate keeper will also help to protect them from unfriendly entities as they do everyday for each and everyone of us.
On the subject of empathy towards others without kudos you should talk to my wife on that one she's been working as a healer and medium all her life and never charged for it. But for most of us we are all too busy working trying to make ends meet to spare any time to help others on a regular basis, I used to do some voluntary work when I was a teenager and thoroughly enjoyed doing so, its certainly something I would recommend and I may well do some more now the kids are grown up, its certainly good for the soul no kudos required.
As for unconditional love, well when it’s your own child however old that’s just a natural, given that there will be unconditional love given to your off spring.
My wife had a very difficult childhood. Her mother was not motherly or nurturing. My wife was quite often called a ‘witch’ by her mother. There was also physical, verbal and mental abuse directed towards my wife from her mother for over 50 years. My wife still bares the ‘scars’ of this, but it has made her a much stronger person, who has forgiven her mother (but has great trouble with understanding why this was directed at her).
We live hundreds of miles away from her parents, but whenever we travel up, we always go to the home my mother in law is in, so my wife can visit her, that’s unconditional love of a parent.
Unconditional love for a friend can be difficult and for me the hardest type especially when that friendship is in trouble due to betrayal or a trust issue, in which case I would and have done in the past, ended regular contact but I would still remain friendly with them, I just would not be as close, how can you be as close if the trust that binds a friendship together has been severed.
