If you’re new to blogging you may be a bit overwhelmed. Here’s some things to consider doing:

Appearance (aka: look)

• Check out the theme: it can be customized. Create your own look.
• Check out the widgets: you can add a links widget for instance, where you can feature your favorite websites, and other places you are active online. Like Facebook, Twitter, Squidoo, Hubpages… New links are added through the ‘links’ menu item.

Content

• Make sure you customize your about page. Tell us a bit about yourself: your name, picture, family background, education, work, spiritual heritage and inspiration, favorite books and teachers etc. This too is a good place to link to other places you frequent online.
• Try and use keywords in the titles of your blogposts. Blogging about God? Use the word God in your title. Blogging from a pagan perspective? Use the word Pagan or Wicca in your title. Interfaith? Same thing.
• Blogging is about sharing – a good post can be a simple quote (do try and credit the source), but should contain your own thoughts ABOUT the quote as well.
• A blogpost does not have to be a finished essay. End it with a question, for instance.

Promotion

• Do your own promotion: share your posts on facebook, twitter, LinkedIn – where ever you go online that you know people who are into spirituality.
• Link TO your blog from other online places where you’re active. Your Squidoo profile, for instance, or on Hubpages.

Bonus

• You can stay updated on other people’s blog posts from your own, by simply adding the ‘recent global posts‘ widget to your blog.

As you can all see, Mystic Minds has had a visual update. Or rather: there’s hardly any design left. This is the result of me installing a new theme and de-installing Buddypress.

I’ll create a more suitable look I’m sure. So far my antics to clean the site up haven’t resulted in the blog themes in use on the site being changed. Perhaps this is a good thing, though I was planning to have them change with the general look.

I’ve succeeded in showing the latest site wide comments on the front page, but am also looking at showing the latest actual posts. [Edit] Now the main page shows the latest posts as well as the latest comments. We now have all the functionality I was looking for [/edit]

Other than that I plan to leave the site pretty much alone, though anybody who wants to blog about religion and spirituality is still welcome here. The site does get some traffic, so it’s not a bad place to blog from that perspective.

C.C. I hope you have patience with me, because the latest WordPress update has left this blog looking totally differently. I have to update, because otherwise the blog is a security risk. However if I have to rethink plugins each time, it’s going to be a real drag.

Anyhow, in this case: please let me know about any functionality you had that you no longer have. Any plugins you used to use that can no longer be found?

As you have perhaps guessed: this update is the first installment in getting this blogging community back on track: opening it up to new writers and that sort of thing. However, losing the main blog on the front page has me thoroughly confused.

This wordpress update was a major one, so it stands to reason that it would change a few things. I’ll probably figure it all out.

Just letting you all know that Bambi gave the site to me, Katinka Hesselink, also known as spirituality on squidoo. I will take full responsibility for the site from now on.

So far I’ve done only the basics:

• Updated WordPress, all themes and plugins, so that the site is basically secure
• Installed Akismet, so more spam should be filtered out

In future I will also be looking at the themes themselves, and revenue sharing (don’t you all think Nan should get the bulk of that? ) and so on. For now though, just keep blogging

As you can see, I haven’t figured everything out yet. How do I get that image of Bambi out of this post? Ah well, it will sort itself out I’m sure. Hi everyone…

I know I’ve been neglecting everyone here and this site and I sincerely apologize. I have been going through a lot of personal issues and unable to get enough computer time lately to do much at all. I was hoping to be settled and back to doing the things I love by now, but life seldom goes the way we want it to and we have to flow with it rather than force it to fit what we want.

Because I can see no change happening to my current situation any time in the near future, I’ve asked Nan to take over the admin duties at this site and over at Mystic Squids so these two great sites can continue to grow and flourish. I will be popping in and out when I can and hopefully my troubles will work themselves out soon. So please Welcome Nan and thank you Nan for helping to make sure these sites are still here for us.

Creating your very own dynamic blog is a lot of fun & very easy to do here at Mystic Minds.

NOTE early 2012: these days I just set up your blog for you, so the below is no longer relevant. However, do check out the video. Creating new blog POSTS is as simple as clicking on ‘NEW’ in the top bar and choosing ‘post‘. Do edit the page I added automatically for you as well.

Once you have set up your Mystic Minds account, all you have to do to get started is click my blogs, on your member page or the admin strip at the top of the screen & then click on create a blog.

Next just fill in an url that reflects what your blog is about or your blog’s title using lowercase letters & numbers. Then fill in your blog’s name & presto! You have your very own blog.

After your blog is created, you will be brought to your blog’s dashboard. Next you will want to scroll down to Appearance and click on themes, to choose a template for how you want your blog to look.
