It isn’t known for certain, but seems highly likely that the Tarot cards were devised to show the different stages within a system of initiation. The card meanings as we know them show stages of events which teach us vital lessons we must learn before proceeding ahead onto the next lesson. There appear to be close links with the system of alchemy whose devotees believed in the “Hermetic” philosophy and underwent training which they believed would lead them to spiritual enlightenment.
Many scholars, including C.G. Jung have examined these ancient doctrines and agree that the 22 cards of The Major Arcana are tools for learning about ones inner-self as well as our deeper motivations.
If we look at the Major Arcana with this in mind, we see that they too fall naturally into 2 groups, the Wheel of Fortune significantly falling mid-point. The turning point if you like between one half of life and the other, often coming immediately after what we might call a “mid-life crisis”. In this context the Wheel of Fortune represents the stage at which the peak of crisis is passed and the descent has begun.
Of course, we shall be looking at each card in more detail further on but for now as long as you have a basic understanding of the Major Arcana and what it represents as far as we know it, is enough to be getting-on with.

still enjoying this!
Alfiesgirl, hey
Hand-on-heart, this is an honest set of questions:
How does trying to outguess Karma through the tarot – or any other tool – helps us create a calmer energy within ourselves when our comfort zones are seriously tested?
How is it conducive to a more genuinely loving environment within our family unit and eventually concentrically … beyond and beyond?
Basically, how does having a tentative handle on what might come down help us accept What Is … in the series of *now* moments that is currently under our feet?
Hi C.C
I started writing this Tarot talk from my own view-point & then reneged and decided that maybe I should write it as the Tarot is more generally accepted Worldwide, the main reason being that I hope to give those that are curious, as well as those that are keen to learn the way that the Tarot works, a basis to work upon.
As I was never “taught” how to read the cards as such, I hadn’t realised how the way I read and interpret the cards differs from that which is generally accepted and used as means of divination today, as people visiting my blog hope to find.
So, as a child who is learning to read and write first learns speech before the alphabet~before phonetics~before going on to writing upper-case and lower case letters and then on to put together a sentence onto paper etc, those wishing to learn how to read Tarot cards also require starting blocks to build upon.As I was fortunate enough to be taught all these things as well as Tarot alongside one another I guess that untill I embarked upon explaining the Tarot in this blog that I came to realise It would be like teaching Latin or Ancient Greek to people that are hoping to learn English as it were. Yes, we can all learn a foreign tongue but we all need to know our own tongue first…else what language would the new tongue be explained and taught in!
I have every intention of making Tarot-Talk into something which covers all things Tarot but for it to work the way I intend it to, indeed the only way it can work as I intend is by going back to basics, giving everyone small chunks at a time to digest and mull over in their own minds…which by doing so will gradually open their mind…to their own mind! Which then will lead on to karma and our inner-self etc.
After all people have come here to learn about Tarot reading and may not want to explore it as far as I shall be taking it. As long as people can stop the ride and get off when they’ve had enough or choose to stay on and experience Tarot as far as it takes them…which is out of divination and fortune telling and into their unconscious mind, which can be scary, then I shall have served my purpose.
