The Universal Meanings Of The Tarot Cards

The meanings of the Major Arcana cards in a Tarot deck tend to differ slightly depending upon which deck of cards you are using, and, for this reason I will give you what I call the “universal” meanings, which basically means they can be used with all Tarot decks and still give as good a reading as if you were using the given meanings for the particular deck which you have chosen to work with. All of the pictures which will accompany the meanings are taken from the Rider-Waite Tarot deck, which, is my preferred deck and the deck which I work with the most.

As I pointed out previously, these meanings of the Tarot cards are not written in stone but are a good start for everyone wishing to learn how the Tarot cards work. I am sure that many of you have read of other meanings of the cards in a Tarot deck which may “go against the grain” of the meanings which I am going to give you, which is fine if they work for you, the old saying of “if it aint broke then don’t fix it” springs to mind, however, when using the given meanings which accompany a particular Tarot deck, although you may say that they work for you when using the cards, should you try applying the same meanings when using a different deck you may not have the same success as you got from the original deck. And it was with this in my mind that I have come up with the “universal” meanings, which, as I have already said, you can use with every Tarot deck and receive the same good results when using them in a reading as you would hope for.

It is also a very good idea to have a pen and paper when you begin to learn the meanings of the Tarot cards, write down any thoughts, visions and symbols which you have about each of the cards, ok, so they may not relate to the given meanings in any way whatsoever and you may not see the significance to the cards just yet, but, it is these thoughts and visions which you will later find out which will reveal to you the “mystery” of the Tarot cards…how do you suppose the generally accepted “as is” meanings came about in the first place!
