Amulet of the Day – Triple Spiral

Barriers, Boundaries, and Possibilities

I think of all the amulets, this is one of my favourites. Both for its meaning and for its design. I have always been attracted to spiral patterns and the triple spiral pattern here is especially appealing to my aesthetic sense.

This particular spiral design comes from a megalithic stone found in Newgrange, County Meath, Ireland. The stone faces out eastward fro the interior of an earthen mound. At sunrise on the winter solstice the shining sun comes streaming between the stones and lights up this spiral pattern.

When the Triple Spiral appears in a reading, it is telling you that a three part action is needed to resolve the situation you have found yourself in.

When you are unable to see your way out, follow the triple spiral path.

Name barriers.

Make a list of the obstacles you are facing. The first step in solving a problem is to identify what, exactly, the problem is. If necessary, draw another amulet to help with clarifying what the obstacles are that you are facing.

Claim healthy boundaries.

Set your limits and stand firm when others push against those boundaries. Be a firm parent on your own behalf. Say “No” when you have to.

Create possibilities.

Once you have identified the problems and obstacles you are facing and set the boundaries on what you will and will not accept, then the next step is to determine what it is that you can do. Listen to your own internal voice, not the voices of others distracting you from your own path.

Remember, the spiral path is not two-dimensional. There are more choices available to you than either/or. Don’t limit the scope of your potential.

Amulet of the Day – Sow

Listening

In some parts of the world during the early Neolithic period the Sow was revered as a Goddess. Her ability to fatten quickly and produce many offspring have strong fertility and harvest associations.

This particular image comes from a clay mask from Macedonia. It is around 6,500 years old.

The Sow amulet comes to tell you it is time to Listen, root around, get your nose into the ground and dig. Sometimes, the things we don’t want to hear hold the most healing power.

Open your inner ear and listen as well to what isn’t being said. If you’re feeling confused by “double messages” focusing on what hasn’t been spoken can help to clarify the situation.

If your mind has been clouded by words that cut you down, insult you, or block new growth it’s time to sort through the mess, stir up the dirt, and get to the truth  in the fertile soil underneath.

Listen carefully to your own language and how you use words to describe yourself. What are you hearing? What do other people hear you saying?

An Amulet Reading

There are different ways of reading the Amulets, using 1, 5, or 7 amulets.

Most often I do a drawing using 5 amulets, putting them before me in a semi-circle like a Council of Elders.

I’ve drawn 5 out now to do a sample reading.

Moon time

Moon time

Cat

Protecting good fortune

Owl

Wisdom of the Darkness

Ewe

Self-worth

Willendorf Goddess

Belonging

Taken as a whole they can give you a good bit of insight and advice, sometimes not the advice you wanted to hear mind you, but good advice none the less.

The Laussel Goddess is reminding you to slow down and take your time, listen to the cycles of your body and the world around you. Look at how your own moods and energy levels are affected by the cycles of the moon.

The Cat is telling you to protect the good things in your life. She is also the bearer of good fortune. You’ve worked hard to get where you are, you’ve earned your good fortunes.Gather around you those people who are happy and supportive of the good in your life, keep close those who can sustain you with encouragement and enthusiasm.

The Owl tells you that these are people you might meet in unusual circumstances , in darkness or unseen. To me, this indicates friends who have never met face to face. Friendships forged through internet connections. Owl will guide you in where you need to go to find these connections.

The Ewe says it’s time to toot your own horn, time to emphasize and encourage the value of your own accomplishments and talents. Your influences and actions have an effect on your environment. If you feel unworthy, who are you deferring your power to? If you think someone else is “better” or more talented, look at it. Practice this very powerful mantra: I AM!

Find your own creative way by listening to your inner voice.

Finally, The Willendorf Goddess tells you that you belong. She has come to tell you that your presence counts. You are important. Take your eyes off “others” and focus on your own bounty, your own good fortunes, your own talents. Avoid comparing yourself with others which will always lead to isolation and loneliness.

Taken all together:

All things in life moves in cycles. As good things and good fortunes come to you, protect them. Gather people near to you in your life who will help you in this. One area where you can do this is through networking via the internet (friends unseen). As you gather people close, learn from them but do not judge yourself by their actions or compare yourself to them. You belong just as surely as any other person, with your own talents and your own skills to offer.

Amulet of the Day – Snake

The Snake – Shedding Fear; Renewing Hope

Shedding Fear; Renewing hope

This particular amulet comes from a seal carving found in ancient Crete. It is dated back to around 2,000 BCE.

Across ancient Europe the snake was revered, but never more so tham in Crete.

It could shed its skin without dying, making it a powerful metaphor for regenerative forces. Several statues on Crete show a female figure holding a snake in each hand, often staring trance-like, as a prophetic seer.

Snake Gods can be found in many cultures around the world, including India, Egypt, China, the Scandinavian countries, Australia, Native American myths, and the Mayan culture of Mexico as well as the later Aztec.

The Snake amulet comes to remind you that you carry the wisdom of the serpent deep within you. You can address all challenges with the power of the snake within you.

The Snake often comes to a person who has faced or is facing addictions or a difficult past with courage and commitment. You have journeyed to the centre of your soul and faced the “Death Goddess”. Now you are back in the arms of the Great Mother for renewal.

Transformation never ends. The “Dark Goddess” is not an enemy. She is an integral part of the God-force flowing within everything and everyone.

Have you been cutting yourself off from your feminine power? Focusing too much on one side, without balance? It’s time to journey into the Underworld to find and reintegrate those lost pieces of your self.

Amulet of the Day: Owl

Owl: Wisdom of the Darkness

Wisdom of the Darkness

Owl - Wisdom of the Darkness

The owl was sacred to Athena, Lilith, Blodeuwydd, and other Moon Goddesses. It is a familiar of witches. A traditional symbol of wisdom.

This amulet image comes from a bird mask carved on the lid of a Neolithic water vessel (late 6th millennium BCE). The mouth served as a spout.

The Owl comes to lead you through the darkness. When your way is unclear, she will teach you to see and hear with your psychic senses.

The owl tells you that it is okay to say “I don’t know.”  It is okay to delay decisions until you have gathered all the information you need. “I don’t feel comfortable with what you’ve suggested. I want to think about it and I will get back to you.” Trust your intuition and those inner “vibes”.

See through situations and people to what lies beneath. Get to the truth.

Find a balance between intellect and emotion to clarify a situation.
