Amulet of the Day – Inanna, Awesome Queen

Self-Transformation

Inanna is a Goddess who was worshipped first in ancient Sumeria.

Awesome Queen

Self-Transformation

The story, “The Descent of Inanna” consists of more than 400 lines and was inscribed on clay tablets in cuneiform writing approximately 4,000 years ago. It’s possible this same story could have been repeated for over 1,500 years before that in oral teaching traditions.

Inanna was called Her Awesome Queen of Heaven and Earth by those who worshipped her.

She was the Goddess of plants, animals, and fecundity of all living things. She was also a Goddess of War.

Meaning

This amulet signals that a time of self- transformation is coming.  The time is coming to face core inner issues. This can be done through asking questions, and listening for the answers.

Like Inanna hearing something from the Great Below.

From the Great Above Inanna opened her ear to the Great Below.

In other words, she heard and she listened.

Let your questions guide you. The answers to each question will lead to new questions. Follow them to where they might lead.

Amulet Reading 31 May – Sacred Creativity

Spider Sacred Creativity

Today’s amulet drawn was the Spider – Sacred Creativity.

I’ve kept it beside me today as I work on my Squidoo lenses, to remind me of why I am writing. Yes, it’s nice to get a bit of money each month. The biggest reason though is because it gives an outlet for one form of creativity which I have found I have a talent and a passion for – writing.

The Spider on this amulet is from a carved shelldisk found in North America. It comes from the Mississippian culture in Illinios and dates from around 1000BCE.

Spider Woman weaves the world into being.

The Spider Amulet comes today to remind me that all acts of creativity are sacred acts, are spiritual acts. Even writing about the mundane can be an act of creative spirituality, if it comes from within.

She’s a reminder of what I already was realising – it’s time to focus more fully back upon my writing, and on promoting myself.

Amulet for the Day 19 May 2010

Hand with Seeds - Accepting Responsibility

The Amulet drawn for today is Hand with Seeds – Accepting Responsibility.

This image had been taken from wall paintings found while excavating the ancient city of Catal Huyuk in Western Turkey. This neolithic community was founded over 9000 years ago. These particular prints have an open area on the palm with some dots drawn in the center. At this time, one can only speculate what these dots represent.

The meaning here is quite clear – you hold the seeds of growth within your hands. Whatever may be going on in your life, take responsibility for it.

If you’ve been holding an idea in your hands, now is the time to plant it. To let it take root And grown.

I have been thinking a lot this morning about my reasons for taking part in the Race for Life to raise money for Cancer Research UK. It’s a good cause in itself, but my reasons are a bit less altruistic.

I’m taking part because I want to get fit. On the other hand, I really dislike the idea of exercising just for the sake of exercising. I knew when I made a goal of becoming fit that I needed a lot more motivation than “To become healthier”. That sort of motivation would not take me very far. Knowing that I was preparing for a 5K walk/run (I don’t plan on running this, not with my knees!) to raise money for a good cause has kept me motivated though.

So, how does this relate back? I’m thinking about getting healthy. I have the seeds for that within my grasp – a membership in a lady’s only gym, DVDs, the Wii with Wii Fit+, loads of places where I can walk.

It’s time to stop thinking about getting fit, and do it! It’s time to take responsibility for my self. Plant the seeds of fitness which I hold within my grasp, and nurture those seeds as they grow.

whirlwinds

Whirlwinds - Trusting the Invisible

Today I have drawn Whirlwinds – Trusting the Invisible

The image is of a whirling image around a resting butterfly. It originally comes from a Central European Neolithic pottery dish, dated from around 7000BCE.

This is a symbol of movement and transformation, but also of stillness found within the center.

This amulet today is reminding me that while I may not see immediate results for the actions I have taken, things are happening. I have to trust that all will come in its own time and detach myself from the outcomes.

So what am I looking at in this regard. What areas of my life have I been making changes in?

Writing – I have been focusing more on promoting my writing. Here, the amulet is telling me to continue that focus, and to trust that positive results will come from that focus.
